What the card says

How to see through it
- 563,858 candidates registered for this year's Grade 12 examination, so a total of 42,916 cannot be the national figure.
- The headline credits the Ministry of Education with a national announcement, while the paragraph below it names the Somali Region, which has an education bureau rather than a ministry.
- The headline writes the Ministry's name back to front, as ሚኒስቴር ትምህርት instead of ትምህርት ሚኒስቴር.
- Words in the picture are misspelt or half formed, which is what image models still do to Ge'ez script and the quickest thing to check.
- No official channel carries it, and a result of this size would appear on the assessment service's own channels before anywhere else.
Where the remedial examination stood
The remedial examination was sat before the Grade 12 papers this year. When this was published its result had not been released and no date had been given for it. The Grade 12 result followed on 22 August, and with it word that remedial places will be fewer this year because more candidates passed, though the mark that decides admission is still to be set.
