70,544 students passed the 2018 E.C. Grade 12 national exam

Natural science candidates passed at 16.5 percent and social science candidates at 8.33 percent. The gap between the streams is close to double, and it is wide enough that the national 12.8 percent describes neither of them well on its own. A social science candidate who reads only the national figure will overestimate how many people in their own stream passed.

18.37 percent of the candidates who sat the examination on a computer passed. Among those who sat it on paper, 4.2 percent did. That is more than a fourfold difference between two groups taking the same examination in the same year, and it is the widest gap in the figures the Ministry released.

Around 60 percent of this year's candidates sat online, up from the three city administrations that went first. The Minister said the plan is to deliver the whole examination online next year.

The discipline problems were about entry to examination centres, the Minister said. A further group of cases involving irregularities in the computer based sitting is still being reviewed, and no number was given for those.

Results reach students early in the week that follows, and candidates who disagree with a score get a few days to say so.
