The four schools
Three of the four are outside Addis Ababa. Oda Special Boarding School in Adama and Agew Midir School in Injibara are both regional schools, and Ifa Boru is in Dodola, in West Arsi. The fourth, Super Holy Savior, is a private school in Bole. Neither the highest result of the year nor the highest girl's result came from the capital.
What a score like that means this year
The pass mark is 50 percent, which on a paper marked out of 600 is 300. 70,544 candidates out of the 550,210 who sat reached it. The four results here sit between 569 and 592, so each of them is close to double the 300 needed to pass.
The national figures, including how the two streams and the two examination formats compared, are in 70,544 students passed the 2018 E.C. Grade 12 national exam. All four have since been named. The 591.6 belongs to Jalal Girma, in the highest score of the year; the 576.2 to Sedem Abdulaziz, in the top social science score; the 583 to Hidase Zemenu, whose school and Grade 11 average are in the student behind the second-highest score; and the 569.1 to Mekdelawit Surafel Mamo. Their names and photographs, a 590.08 that the briefing did not include, and the 88 schools that passed every candidate they entered are in the five named top scorers. If you are still waiting on your own result, the dates and the appeal window are in when the Grade 12 result arrives.
